User Terminals
EllipsoTM user terminals are intended to be similar in form and function to cellphones and PDAs, similar in look, feel and cost to phones people use today - handheld, carphones or at home. Ellipso mobile terminals design includes a "dual-mode," meaning a user accesses their local cellular network most of the time, defaulting to "Ellipso mode" when they are out of cellular coverage or their network is congested.
EllipsoTM handheld phones are intended to serve the above functions, but also have global positioning, unified messaging, Internet and with other capabilities enabled. They should even be used as modems for laptops and other communications devices.
EllipsoTM offer vehicular phones are intended primarily for business and industry use, including ships, trucks, planes and on business and personal vehicles. These will have similar, and often enhanced functionality relative to handheld phones, and include small cabin or trunk-mounted antennas with a wireless link to a handheld phone.
In addition to the mobile terminals, Ellipso'sTM prices can be low enough to offer public payphone and residential services to remote areas, including voice, Internet access, e-mail and other valued services. This can be accomplished with wireless phones attached to small, flat satellite antennas mounted on a roof or on top of the phone booth. Village payphones, residential connections and field offices will get instant access at prices similar to (and often lower than) that paid in large cities.
