Ellipso 2G

Ellipso sought to bring an enhancement to the initial Ellipso system using anticipated 2 Giga-Hertz spectrum to offer two way voice and data services compatible with higher data rates, up to 64 kbps for global 3G data services. Combining the spectrum bands in a single satellite system will lead to increased capacity, a much broader array of mobile and fixed services, including video conferencing, and all at affordable cost to consumer.

The intellectual property and other assets associated with a constellation design consisting of 26 non-geostationary satellites arranged in five orbital planes was merged with ICO in a jointly owned subsidiary, ESBH. In the Ellipso 2 G constellations three planes of five satellites were to be inclined elliptical orbits, a fourth plane to have six satellites in a circular equatorial orbit, and a fifth plane have five satellites in an elliptical equatorial orbit.

The 2 G operating frequencies bands are:

Satelite to mobile 2165 - 2200 MHz S band
Mobile to satellite 1990 - 2025 MHz S band
Satellite to gateway 6775 - 7075 MHz C band
Gateway to satellite 15400-15700 MHz Ku band
