ITU ASSIGNS UNIVERSAL TELEPHONE NUMBERS TO ELLIPSO SYSTEM
WASHINGTON, DC, June 14, 1999 --Ellipso, Inc. today announced it has been assigned the universal telephone numbers of 881 2 and 881 3 for the Ellipso(tm) system. The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) previously had allocated an 881 "country code" to the global mobile satellite services industry; the ITU has now reserved the numbers 2 and 3 as the network code that identifies Ellipso. With this assignment, Ellipso customers can be called anywhere in the world on a single phone number.
At the same time, Ellipso has been assigned by the ITU the shared mobile code resource of 901 07, where 901 is the shared mobile country code and 07 is the mobile network code. This number is the basis for subscriber information module (SIM) numbers, which allow Ellipso customers to interconnect with terrestrial cellular systems throughout the world.
"There are many steps we have to take on the road to implementation of the Ellipso system in 2002." said Dr. David Castiel, President and Chief Executive Officer of Ellipso, Inc. "Having international numbers assigned to us by the ITU is an important step, which will make the process of planning our future networks more precise. This also represents progress towards providing our future customers with the quality service they deserve."
The ITU's Telecommunication Standardization Bureau is the registrar for universal international numbers, and is responsible for registration requests and number assignment.
Ellipso, Inc., headquartered in Washington, D.C., is currently designing and constructing the Ellipso satellite-based global communications system that will provide low cost and high quality digital voice and data services worldwide. Utilizing unique and patented elliptical orbits, the Ellipso system will provide voice, data, facsimile, paging and geolocational services to subscribers around the world at prices significantly lower than competing systems. The Ellipso project includes the participation of The Boeing Company, Lockheed Martin Global Telecommunications, Harris Corporation, L-3 Communications, and Israel Aircraft Industries.
